Travel Adventure #7

Looks like I'm getting behind already... too many adventures and not enough time sitting still.  :-)

On May 29th, I took a drive up the Skalkaho Highway to see how much water was coming over the falls.  

I stopped to take pictures of a couple other places where water was coming down with great force and beauty. 

Once I got to Skalkaho Falls I thought I may as well keep on going over the pass to the town of Phillipsburg and to Granite ghost town. The candy store in Phillipsburg is always a perfect stop. The road to Granite was really washed out and rough so did not explore there as much as I had hoped. 

Here's a barn near Phillipsburg that was just calling for me to stop and take some photos.

By the end of the day I made it safely back over the pass to Hamilton.

Travel Adventure #3

For two nights in April, I camped at the Country Lane Campground while visiting a friend in Wilbur, WA, right off Highway 2.  She and I spent one full day checking out the Grand Coulee Dam (the largest dam in the US),

having lunch in Coulee City, shopping at the Hartline school converted to a thrift store, shopping at the Almira senior center thrift store, 

inspecting the deteriorating Govan school house 

and taking some time to look at headstones in a nearby cemetery. Many headstones show births in the 1800's.  So many seemed to die so young.  

One headstone spoke powerfully to me.  It was a woman grasping hold of the cross of Jesus Christ.  This is my greatest hope.  It must have been hers as well.

On the way home I stopped at the Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge outside Bonners Ferry, ID.  

Then came my annual visit to Yaak Falls, MT.  This time of year they are magnificent and powerful beyond words.  I camped one night at the nearby campground and sat by the falls the next morning for a while before heading back home.
